THE CATRIONA'S CASTLE HANDS-ON CHILDREN'S THEATRE PROGRAM WAS CREATED IN 1988 serving Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC.

A FAIRY GODMOTHER brings elaborate costumes (most are hand crafted), small scale scenery, and unusual props to your home, school, camp, or other location, providing an INTERACTIVE children's theatre entertainment program for girls and boys ages 2-12.

Catriona's Castle is designed to fit in living rooms or small classrooms for programs with groups of 10-30 children. It also adapts easily to auditoriums for large event programs with groups of up to 200 children.

Once the Fairy Godmother arrives, she sets up a back drop staging area, costume trunk and small scale scenery. For example, Cinderella has a 4ft. flat upright coach with a door and a quilted pumpkin. Sleeping Beauty has a 4ft bed and spinning wheel. Treasure Island has a treasure chest filled with jewels and gold. The Wizard of Oz has a roll out yellow brick road. Alice in Wonderland has a china tea party set up with giant playing cards. The Secret Garden has an ivy-draped garden wall and an antique wheelchair. The Fairy Godmother then costumes up to 30 children (costumes fit easily over clothes) as different characters in the chosen story (15 stories to choose from). Once the children are costumed, the Fairy Godmother tells the story. She whispers things for the children to say and do in order for them to act out the play. For large auditorium groups,the Fairy Godmother directs the children in the audience to make sound effects and theatrical gestures from their seats.

FOR BIRTHDAY PARTIES, the birthday child is costumed as the main character in the story. Parents and grandparents are also welcome to participate, as each story has a variety of soft sculptured costumes which easily fit any size and shape person. For example, in The Wizard of Oz, Mom can be the Emerald City, Dad can be the Twister, Grandma can be a flower in Munchkin Land, and Grandpa can be the witch's castle!

Catriona's Castle brings children's theatre services to several counties in Maryland, Northern Virginia, and Washington, DC, and is an approved performer for Montgomery County Schools. Catriona's Castle has been featured in articles written by The Washington Post, Washington Parent, and numerous other DC metro area publications. We have performed for The Vice-President of The United States at his residence for his granddaughter, The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court for his son, for PBS at The National Library of Congress Book Festival on the DC Mall, for ambassadors' children at the ambassadors' residences, and for many other celebrities' children or grandchildren.

Catriona's Castle has trained fairy godmothers on staff who are patient, poised and experienced in working with children ages 2-12. Our approach is gentle and non-threatening. Catriona's Castle is happy to work with special needs children.

Catriona's Castle provides OPTIONAL delicious STORYBOOK THEME BIRTHDAY CAKES sprinkled with fairy dust and placed on a ruffled cake board (beautifully prepared by Custom Cake Design). We tuck a box of 24 pastel candles and matchbook in each cake box. Cake flavors include vanilla, chocolate, or half-vanilla/half-chocolate. Icing is always vanilla for the story picture.
